Every
July, the annual Fiesta Del Fuego, also known as Fiesta Del Caribe,
transforms Santiago De Cuba into a smorgasbord of art and performance.
At indoor and outdoor venues throughout the city, there are free
and low-cost shows of music and dance. Some, but not much, theater
is offered and there are some film screenings as well. Galleries
exhibit paintings and sculpture and local artisans offer crafts
for sale.
An
important component of the festival is a series of lectures about
Africa-derived religion in the Caribbean. For a flat fee of about
$60, admission is available to the symposia and official festival
activities. For more details, hit http://www.afrocuba.web.
