Teddy Pendergrass
Iconic soul singer Teddy Pendergrass, paralyzed in a crash 28 years ago, has died from colon cancer. He was 59 years old. His son, Teddy Pendergrass II, told reporters that his father had colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery." The R&B sex-symbol enjoyed early success with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, whose hits included If You Don't Know Me By Now, before going solo in 1976. His romantic numbers, such as Close the Door, It Don't Hurt Now and Love T.K.O, have become classics. Pendergrass was still able to sing after the 1982 crash but without his signature power. After the accident, he dedicated much of his life to helping others with spinal cord injuries. He is survived by his wife, his son, two daughters, his mother and nine grandchildren.
