| David Oyelowo as Joe "Lightning" Little in "Red Tails." |
"Red Tails" is the new movie that takes the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and makes it into an aerial action flick. The Tuskegee Airmen were African American World War II pilots who smashed racial barriers, earned honor as fighters and returned to the United States to fight against racism and social inequality at home.
After previewing the film, I participated in a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. with actors Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and David Oyelowo, as well as director Anthony Hemingway and surviving Tuskegee airman Dr. Roscoe Brown.
The true events represented by the movie, as well as the high-flying aerial scenes are the most impressive aspect of the production. This recording of that interview begins with Dr. Brown, who was stationed in Italy with 332nd Fighter group and was awarded ultimately the distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal as well as the Congressional Gold Medal. You’ll also hear Terrence Howard and David Oyelowo, who plays a starring role as a fighter pilot.
